Georges Island Visitors Center

Client: Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)

Budget: $350,000

Fort Warren, located on Georges Island in Boston Harbor, protected the city of Boston for more than 100 years, and served as an important Civil War-era prison. The new visitor center was established in the restored former mine storage building near the fort. Main interpretive themes include the life experiences of the men who served there and the constantly-evolving weapons technology that ultimately rendered the fort obsolete.
